| U2 lyrics are best bar none
Ireland’s rock
group U2 have been voted responsible for the Best Lyric in a new poll
carried out by music channel VH1.
The winning lyric from the band’s 1991 song One was: “One
life, with each other, sisters, brothers”.
A line from U2’s Where The Streets Have No Name was also ranked
number 11th in the poll of over 13,000 music fans.
The Smiths’ How Soon Is Now? with: “So you go, and you stand
on your own/And you leave on your own” was in second place. And
Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit with: “I feel stupid and
contagious/Here we are now, entertain us” came in in third.
But one man who wasn’t in agreement with the poll results was former
The Smiths frontman Morrissey who hinted recently he didn’t think
much of main man Bono’s songwriting talents.
Feeling a little hard done by coming in second to Bono he joked at a gig
in Manchester: “I noticed in the newspapers that in a lyrical competition
Bono did better than me. He’s really nice, but really?”
