Traditional duo return to Tyneside for concert

FIDDLE player Aly Bain and accordion player Phil Cunningham are two of the most celebrated musicians on the traditional/folk music scene and are to return to the Tyneside Irish Centre on Thursday, April 26 at 8pm.

Aly is rightly regarded as Scotland’s supreme traditional-style fiddle player arguably the finest of all time.

Over the years he has developed a unique playing technique becoming recognised for his highly-dramatic style which has earned him a following of ardent fans all over the world.

By the time Aly and Phil began working together in 1988 they were already renowned for their previous accomplishments.

Aly was a founding member of Boys of the Lough a band whose repertoire included both Scottish and Irish influences.

Phil became a member of the infamous Silly Wizard at the age of 16 thereby launching a prolific and diverse musical career.

Since 1989 Aly and Phil have toured on an annual basis and are appearing once again at their spiritual home the Tyneside Irish Centre.

Phil summed up the appeal of the duo when he said: “We try to do the best we can every night.

I think we’re playing music that people like to hear.”
