Seány gets his chance on Big Brother
Reality
television series Big Brother has propelled a number of Irish contestants
to stardom and this year Irish entrant Seán O’Kane from Derry
is hoping to enjoy a similar route to fame.
Known to his friends as Seány, the 25-year-old Micheal Jackson
fanatic first came to public attention when he was photographed waving
the Tricolour at the eccentric singer’s acquittal on child molestation
charges.
Seány currently works as a charity worker in Manchester and this
is his fourth attempt to gain entrance to the Big Brother house.
In his late teens he went to the White House to meet Hillary Clinton,
for whom he had written a poem.
He says his dream job would be inventing and testing new toys, and describes
himself as having big hair and big attitude.
His uncle Christopher O’Kane was gunned down on his 37th birthday
at his home in the Currynieran estate of Derry city.
It is believed he was targeted for suspected drug dealing by the provisional
IRA; a suspicion that was backed up at an inquest into his death in 2006
by a senior PSNI detective who said the gun used to kill Mr O’Kane
belonged to the PIRA.
Irish fans of the reality television show can also get behind Nicky Maxwell.
The bank administrator from Watford was saved from a life of poverty in
an orphanage in India by an Irish woman, who she now calls mum.
Originally from Mumbai, Nicky was cared for in the orphanage run by Mother
Teresa’s nuns.
And when she was just one-year-old her life changed dramatically when
her Irish mum and Anglo-Indian dad took her out of India and back to England.
Nicky, who dropped four dress sizes before going on the Channel 4 show,
has declared she wants to use the experience to reveal her real personality
to the world.
She said: ‘‘I’m Catholic and not Muslim or Hindu, I
go out and drink and smoke and party hard. People seem confused
about my identity — I’m not confused. It would be nice
to explain to everyone, once and for all, what I’m about.”
And Spiral, who appeared on last year’s Big Brother, is working
as roving reporter for Big Brother’s Little Brother.
He interviews people in Dublin every week about their views on this year’s
series.
Since his departure from Big Brother the Finglas native has enjoyed a
successful career as a DJ and enjoyed a top 10 hit in the Irish charts.
