Norton comes out batting for Bono
By Grainne McLoughlin
It’s not often the word humble and U2 frontman Bono belong in the
same sentence but it’s exactly that quality that has drawn the musician
praise from Hollywood actor Edward Norton.
Norton has hailed the ‘humbling’ efforts of the crusading
rock star that is Bono. Explaining that the Irishman should be an example
to us all the Fight Club star said he has a lot of respect for Bono because
he can put aside his personal grievances to progress the anti-poverty
cause he supports.
The actor says: “I’ve been pretty impressed with him. It’s
very enlightened to choose to seek as much positive connection as he does,
even with the people who are the instruments of these terrible, terrible
policies.
“In essence it’s ‘turn the other cheek’, ‘hate
the sin and love the sinner’, which is a lot more forgiving —
more Christian, more Buddhist — than a lot of these things these
more radical people talk about.
“It’s humbling to realise the degree to which we all indulge
in anger, in response to these things.
“You realise what courage that takes, because it’s easier
to be angry.”
