Manchester Tradfest launch

The legendary Irish singer-songwriter Eleanor McEvoy will pre-launch this year’s Manchester Irish festival Tradfest on Thursday, February 7 at m19 bar in Levenshulme village.

The Tradfest features 10 days of traditional Irish music and dance and is officially launched four weeks later on Friday, March 7 and runs through to Monday, March 17 — for more information see www.manchesteririshfestival.co.uk

She is appearing with the traditional Irish group The Tim Edey Band featuring Brendan Power and Lucy Randall.

Eleanor first shot to prominence when her song A Woman’s Heart became the theme and title track to the largest selling Irish album A Woman’s Heart.

The Tim Edey band has recently been featured on BBC Two’s Later With Jools Holland.

The show, which is touring all over Britain, has been sponsored by the Arts Council and Nu-Routes music.

Lawrence Hennigan the owner of m19 bar said: “We are delighted to be staging such a prestigious show in the purpose-built acoustic suite of m19.

“It is great to see touring Irish artists visiting Levenshulme village which is home to the biggest Irish community outside of London.

“Our Tradfest for the city’s Irish festival starts exactly a month after this event so it makes an ideal pre-launch event.

“There is only a limited capacity at the venue and people would be advised to book their tickets in advance. The four musicians have put together a special show incorporating elements of all of their repertoires. They will be bringing to the stage traditional Irish music, blues, contemporary song and a lot more.”
