| Mama Mia! Pierce sings!
Former James Bond Pierce Brosnan is turning his talents to singing in
a Hollywood movie version of smash-hit musical Mama Mia.
The 53-year-old Irish-born actor will star opposite two-time Oscar-winning
actress Meryl Streep in the film adaptation of the show based on the music
of pop superstars Abba.
The film which is being made by Hollywood studio Universal will start
filming in London and Greece in late June this year.
Brosnan has previously sung a few Irish standards in his independent film
drama Evelyn and also sang onstage early in his career. He will play Sam,
one of three men summoned to a Greek isle by a young woman who believes
one of them is her father.
Mama Mia is being produced by Littlestar’s Judy Craymer and Playtone’s
Gary Goetzman and movie superstar Tom Hanks.
Meanwhile Pierce may have played a man who can do anything in several
Bond movies but even he was at a loss on a recent flight from Kauai to
Los Angeles when a medical emergency forced the plane to land prematurely
in Honolulu.
A flight attendant asked if there was a doctor on board and when no-one
came forward passenger Emily Frances, who is a television news reporter,
turned to the star and said: “Come on you’re Bond. Shouldn’t
you be able to do something about this?”
According to The New York Post, Pierce grinned and replied: “Unfortunately,
that’s only in my make-believe life.”
