Liverpool Comhaltas prepares to
celebrate
LIVERPOOL branch
of Comhaltas will be celebrating its 50th birthday next year.
During that half century the branch has had many successes and achievements
— the Liverpool Céilí Band being one that is known
and admired by music lovers on both sides of the Irish Sea.
The Branch is currently thriving at the St Michael’s Irish Centre
and has a larger playing membership than at any time in its history.
This has been achieved with the help of a dedicated group of music teachers
from whom young people from all over Merseyside are learning to play and
appreciate Irish music in an informal atmosphere where friendship and
community values form the platform for everything achieved.
The branch has organised a traditional Irish concert entitled Memories
of Ireland to be held on March 4 at the Crossly Civic Hall in High Road
in Crosby.
The show produced by Mary Mac Andrew features some of the best traditional
artists including the legendary piper Thomas O’Canainn, Sean McNamara,
Scottish duo Mairéad McManus (flute) and Katie Boyle (fiddle),
Monaghan fiddle player Laura Beagán, Manchester’s finest
accordionist Michelle O’Leary, Liverpool Singer Ursula Burke and
All-Ireland winning balladeer and composer Bruce Scott.
Top-class Irish dance entertainment will be provided by the Bolger Cunningham
Irish Dancers who recently won the prestigious Celtic Mas International
Eisteddfod Competition with a dance production entitled The Leaving of
Liverpool — depicting the story of emigration through the port of
Liverpool.
This will be a show guaranteed to lift the spirit and raise the heart
on a winter evening and tune everybody up for the St Patrick’s celebrations.
Tickets are £7.00 Tel: 0151 9223503 or e-mail macgab1@btopenworld.com
