Keeping up with The Smiths
It’s been 20 years since The Smiths split just before the release
of their fourth studio album Strangeways Here We Come. Later this month
fans of the rock group are organising a charity bike ride to raise money
for the Manchester’s Salford Lads Club Restoration Fund — the building
which The Smiths were iconically photographed in front of for their 1986
album The Queen Is Dead. Richard Purden met second-generation Irish former
members andy rourke and mike joyce who are currently promoting their film
about life in one of Britain’s most important indie bands.
