Irish pair’s hope for West End debut in final stage
Irish
eyes are smiling in the BBC1 show Grease Is The Word as Dubliner Susan
McFadden and second-generation Irish singer Anthony Kavanagh also known
as Kavana have made it through to the grand final.
Both contestants impressed the judges and it is now possible that it could
be an all-Irish cast playing the role of Sandy and Danny in the West End
musical.
Last Saturday’s show saw Susan and other Sandy hopefuls Michelle,
Vicky and Alison sing in a bid to impress the public.
All four were praised by the judges but it was Vicky and Alison who received
fewest votes and were told the Grease journey was over.
But controversy soon raged when, after the show, the ousted contestants
claimed the judges and the programme makers manipulate the public vote
to ensure the favourites win.
They claim the finale is now a forgone conclusion and that the sister
of ex-Westlife star Brian McFadden will definitely make it all the way.
Speaking during last Saturday’s show Judge David Ian said: “I
am happy. We have two gorgeous potential leading ladies. We’ve got
a phenomenal singer and a phenomenal dancer/actress.”
Next Saturday Susan Mc-Fadden and former boyband hunk Kavana will go head-to-head
with Michelle Antrobus and Danny Bayle to find out who will play the coveted
role in the hit musical Grease.
And fallen popstar Kavana has said he will relaunch his chart career whether
he wins the competition or not.
He said: “Whether I win Grease or not I want to restart my music
career. My old record label Virgin wants to release my greatest hits,
so that will help. Of course I want to win. But if I don’t it’s
not the end of the world.”
