Hall of Fame award for Colum

The 2005 Hennessy Literary Awards in Dublin last week showed the best
of Irish writing talent with Oscar-nominated Colum McCann receiving the
prestigious Hall of Fame Award.
The internationally-acclaimed writer who got an Academy nomination for
his short story Everything In This Country Must flew from New York to
collect his award.
The New Irish Writer Award was won by Dublin-born Jennifer Farrell for
her fictional short story Beached.
Other awards presented on the evening included Best Emerging Poetry —
which went to Maria Wallace — and Best Emerging Fiction Writer —
which went to Owen Dwyer.
A total of 17 writers were nominated for this year’s awards with
each category winner receiving a prize of ¤1,500.
Judges Philip Hensher, Mary O’Donnell and Ciaran Carty attended
the plush Four Seasons event.
