Doherty in the dock again

By Grainne McLoughlin

It’s official. There’s absolutely no hope for Irish rocker Pete Doherty.

It’s hardly been a wet weekend since he was last hurled into the back of a copper car, but it seems Doherty has taken to the view.

And, it wasn’t enough that he be arrested for possession of drugs this time — the troubled rock star was also lifted by police on suspicion of stealing a car.

The Babyshambles frontman was one of three men arrested in Birmingham in connection with a report of a vehicle having been stolen in London.

A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: “Three men were arrested when a car was stopped in Colmore Row at approximately 9.15pm.

“They were arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle relating to a report of a car stolen in London and on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs.

“One of the men was aged 26 and from London. The other two are aged 18 and 19 from Dundee.

“They have been released on police bail pending further enquiries.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Pete gets himself out of this one.
