Brosnan backs Craig as the new
James Bond
Pierce
Brosnan was on hand to show support to his fellow actor and new 007 agent
Daniel Craig.
When the Irishman — who’s believed by many to be the one true
Bond — heard Craig had his teeth knocked out during a fight scene
for the movie Casino Royale he said he’d been through much of the
same.
“I got stitched up and sewn up a few times — it just didn’t
get in the papers,” said Brosnan at the British premiere of his
new film The Matador.
“I had my face sliced open by a stuntman. I had a knee injury. You
get twisted some way or another if you throw yourself into it. There’s
going to be mishaps.”
Far from the role of the British spy agent, the Navan man’s new
role in The Matador — which was also produced by his own film company
— has earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Playing a sleazy hitman in the comedy Brosnan says the role came at an
opportune time to try something a little different.
After losing his lucrative Bond contract to Craig in true Irish grace
he’s the first to defend the ability of his successor despite critics
who’ve said the new man is a poor choice.
He said: “I think Daniel is a very fine actor. These are rocky waters
and they’re going to get him one way or another but I think he will
have the last laugh at the end of it.”
But it doesn’t look like the critics are going away with angered
Bond fans even launching a website www.craignotbond.com urging people
to boycott the upcoming film.
The very same website cites Brosnan as “the most beloved actor
to play Bond since Sean Connery”. High praise.
