Branch faces axe

THE NORTH London Branch of Comhaltas was formed in 1970, and has a long history of success throughout its 37 years as part of the London Region.

It is the only branch in the London Region of Comhaltas which still runs a Junior Fleadh Cheoil but after 10 years this may not continue.

The branch had its annual general meeting on the October 15 at 8pm at the London Irish Centre in Camden.

This meeting is important as new officers are elected to keep the branch running — and most importantly to preserve and promote the activities built up in its 37 years history.

In order for a branch such as North London to register five officers must be elected — chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary, treasurer and auditor.

Three of the long-term officers of North London Branch of Comhaltas are standing down and two more have decided they are unable to attend meetings.

It means due to lack of support the North London Branch of Comhaltas may have to fold if it does not elect the five officers to keep the branch running.

This is a very worrying matter — and therefore all members and those traditional music lovers outside of Comhaltas are requested to help and support in keeping the branch alive.

Officers of the North London branch meet once a month at the London Irish Centre in Camden.

Meetings could be alternated to a more local or central location every third month.
