Award-winning Irish film set for British cinemas An
Irish film that recently won a prestigious award at the Cannes Film Festival
in France is set to be released in British cinemas.
Garage stars comedian Pat Shortt in a serious dramatic role as a small-town
outcast looking for love.
Set on the outskirts of a small town in the mid-west of Ireland, the film’s
success has seen it strike distribution deals for its release in six countries.
Channel 4’s film channel Film 4 has bought the rights to show the
film in Britain, while RTÉ has bought the cinema distribution rights
for Ireland.
It will also be shown in Spain, Portugal, Australia and New Zealand.
The production, which was directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by
Mark O’Halloran, was awarded the Prix Art et Essai by the International
Confederation of Art House Cinemas at this year’s Cannes festival.
Garage is produced by Element Pictures, the company behind The Wind That
Shakes The Barley.
Producer Ed Guiney said the film has also received multiple offers for
distribution rights in the US, the Benelux, Switzerland, Italy, Germany
and Japan, however these deals have yet to be negotiated.
