| Arise ‘Sir’ Bono as frontman is knighted
SINGER
Bono picked up his honourary knighthood last week.
He received the controversial award at a ceremony at the British Embassy
in Dublin for his services to the music industry and for his humanitarian
work.
British Ambassador David Reddaway conducted the ceremony.
Bono will be a Knight Commander Of The Most Excellent Order Of The British
Empire, or KBE. As he is an Irish citizen he will not be able to use the
title ‘Sir’.
Other Irish honorary knights include Bob Geldof and newspaper tycoon Anthony
O’Reilly.
The honour is the latest international award for the U2 singer.
In 2003 he was presented with France’s Legion D’Honneur while
in 2005 he was voted Time magazine’s Person-of-the-year.
In 2006 he was named the most influential pop star of the past 25 years
by MTV. |
