Annual tour dates announced by Irish Rambling House

THE 20 mighty entertainers of the Irish Rambling House are busy preparing for their annual trip to Britain to entertain the exiles.

This time they will be visiting Derby, Lincoln, Birmingham and London.

As usual the trip has a charitable fundraising aspect. On this occasion it’s for Cricklewood Homeless Concern which offers aid and shelter to older Irish exiles in difficulties.

Tour manager Kay O’Leary said: “On a previous occasion we raised some money for Cricklewood Homeless Concern.

“While the plight of some of the less fortunate Irish emigrants has improved we feel initiatives like this from Ireland are important and show those in need that they haven’t been forgotten about back home.

“Let us not forget that the money sent home by these people in the 1950s and ’60s was important for so many Irish families in difficult times.”

The fundraising initiative takes the form of a sponsored walk which will take place on November 3 when the Maids of Erin — a Kerry/Limerick female traditional Irish group — will join with Donncha O’Dulaing of RTÉ’s Fáilte Isteach to undertake a walk from Kilburn to Cricklewood.

That night the Maids of Erin concert will take place at the Crown Moran Hotel in Cricklewood.

On November 16 the Irish Rambling House is staging a return home concert at the Devon Inn Hotel in Templeglantine in Co. Limerick to raise further funds for this worthy cause. Donncha O’Dulaing will also attend this show.

All contributions are welcome and can be arranged by contacting Danny Maher at 020 3273 0049.

The effort has received messages of support from the Mayor of London Ken Livingstone and from Irish Minister for Foreign Affairs Dermot Ahern.
