Yorkshire Air Link Poll
By Jon Myles
The Irish community in Britain is being asked to give its verdict on whether
a new air service should be launched from Yorkshire to Ireland.Knock
International Airport is investigating the possibility of a direct service
from Leeds Bradford Airport to Knock.
The route would form part of the strategic development of routes from
Knock.
The move follows a 430-name petition drawn up by members of the Leeds
Irish Club calling for the route to be introduced.
Knock Airport’s marketing and sales manager Desmond O’Flynn said: “This
is the first time that we have been petitioned directly by an Irish community
group in Britain for a flight and we have to respond to their request.”
The airport has set-up a questionnaire on its website at
www.knockairport.com
for interested parties to fill in to guage public interest in a new direct
service.
Airport management have also commissioned their own independent research.
Mr O’Flynn said: “We hope to use these results to persuade one of the
many low cost carriers now operating in Britain to seriously consider the
route and to put on a service.
“Our belief is that, based on the hard evidence from the questionnaire,
the massive interest and support from the Irish community in the Yorkshire
and Humberside area, as well as local interest in the Border, Midlands and
Western Region, the route can be successful and will be a great travel,
holiday and cultural development”.
