Enjoyed a break in Listowel? Then perhaps you’re thinking of moving there for good.

Housing

The progressive building programmes of both private construction companies and the local authority ensures a wide selection of quality houses is available to meet the requirements of the town’s residents.

Over 300 houses have been built in the town in the last five years and there is a wide range of affordable homes available.

Health Services

Listowel has a full range of public and private health services. There is a Community Hospital in the town together with both private and public retirement homes.

Tralee General Hospital and the Bons Secours Hospital are located nearby and there are many general practitioners, dental surgeons and pharmacists in the area.

Education

A historic centre of learning Listowel has three primary schools — Scoil Réalta na Maidine (boys), Presentation Primary (girls) and Gaelscoil Liostuathail (mixed).

At second level there is also excellent choice — St. Michael’s College (boys), Presentation Secondary (girls) and Listowel Community College (mixed) offer a comprehensive programme of academic and practical subjects with adult education also available.

In addition there are education centres to cater for students with special needs.

Third Level Education

The Institute of Technology in Tralee just 17 miles away has developed its range of programmes in recent years and offers many opportunities to achieve degree qualifications.

The University of Limerick also offers a full range of degree courses and is 45 miles from Listowel.

Ireland’s training and recruitment body FAS has a training centre in Tralee offering a variety of FAS services to the North Kerry area.

Transport:

Air travel: Kerry Airport at Farranfore is 30 miles from Listowel and provides direct flights to and from London and Dublin.

Shannon Airport some 60 miles from Listowel is Ireland’s major international transatlantic airport where scheduled services are offered to New York, Boston and Atlanta with direct connections to 15 other major US cities.

Sea Port: Shipping requirements are catered for by a large number of companies who provide scheduled container services, both roll-on/roll-off and lift-on/lift-off which operate from most Irish ports.

There are direct sailings to Britain, Europe, the United States and Canada.

The port of Foynes — one of the largest deepwater ports in Europe — is located 25 miles from Listowel on the Shannon Estuary.

Road and Rail: Bus Éireann provides passenger and freight services.

Daily bus services are available to Limerick, Tralee, Cork and other major urban centres.

A comprehensive range of road freight services including bulk, container, refrigerated transport and heavy haulage facilities are available both from Bus Éireann and private licensed hauliers.

There are regular train services from Casement Station in Tralee to Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Rosslare, Waterford and Killarney.

These trains provide both passenger and freight services.

A comprehensive and regular train service to Dublin is available from Limerick.
