Heron’s Cove and Mizen Head is the Perfect Getaway

The Heron’s Cove in Goleen Harbour, West Cork, is near Mizen Head, Ireland’s most south-westerly point where Fastnet Rock Lighthouse lights the sky.

It is a perfect getaway vacation — romantic for an Irish honeymoon — with charming views of sea harbour, fast-flowing stream and inland hills.

This is quality Tourist Board approved accommodation offering hotel standards at B&B prices. The Oceanside Restaurant, with fresh fish and wine on the harbour, specialises in fresh organic local produce such as lobster, prawns, crab, steaks, lamb and duck. The Heron’s Cove Wine rack has a tantalising selection of wines.

The B&B (with full Irish breakfast) is open all year round (Bookings essential October to April). and the a la carte restaurant is open daily from May to September.

The nearby Mizen Head Fog Signal Station was sanctioned in 1906 by the Irish Lights Board to combat the high loss of life and shipping on the rocks. Until 1993 the Station was manned by three keepers but was automated in April 1993 and a community rural development initiative was formed to create a visitor attraction, Mizen Vision, in the former keepers’ quarters and to take over the path to the Point.

Heron’s Cove and Mizen Head is a great touring base for beaches, horseriding, hill walking, Mizen Head Signal Station, sea angling, shore fishing, boating and trips to Cape Clear Island.
