Cavan may be a small county in Ireland, but there is plenty to do: fishing, nature walks, horse riding, golfing and visiting pubs and restaurants.
Fishing: Cavan is an unspoilt haven for anglers with its rich variety of waters including 365 lakes within a 20-mile radius. There is an abundance of bream, roach, pike and tench all to specimen sizes. For the game angler there are ideal fly-fishing locations. Stream and river fishing for good-sized brown trout is also popular in many locations throughout the county.
Nature: enjoy the great outdoors walking, angling or nature watching in Cavan’s two great Forest Parks — Killykeen and Dun Na Rim. Or horse ride at a number of riding centres throughout County Cavan.
Golfing: the Slieve Russell Golf and County Club is one of Cavan’s best. This is just a short drive away from the picturesque, historic town of Belturbet.
Belturbet Co. Cavan, on the banks of River Erne, dates back to the early 13th century when the Anglo – Normans built a fort. In the 17th century Belturbet was an important trading centre with a garrison. The Parish Church was one of the first Anglican Churches built in Ireland. The Railway Station, built 1885, has been recently been restored. Belturbet has top-class restaurants and many public houses with music and craic.
